2008 Tenth Anniversary Concerts
"Music of the Decades"

The Chorus was very excited to be celebrating its Tenth Anniversary, a decade of presenting beautiful music to Jackson and the surrounding communities. In keeping with the celebration of this wonderful decade, Director Jason Diaz created a program of great music representing the decades from 1920 to the present. The Chorus, supported by our wonderful piano accompanist, Will Vanderburg, transported the audience across the decades with an array of selections that elicited fond memories and were moving with their beauty, joy and sheer delight. Among the selections were: “American Heroes, A Salute to the Armed Forces” featuring the anthems of the Navy, Air Force, Marines and Army; “Defying Gravity” from the Musical “Wicked”; a medley from the Broadway show, “Jersey Boys”, including “Oh What a Night”, “Stay”, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You”; a medley of “Chattanooga Choo-Choo" and "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe”, “For the Beauty of the Earth” and “Prayer of the Children”.
The Chorus was pleased and proud to once again be joined by the Jackson Civic Youth Chorus, a select group of sixth-ninth graders from Jackson. The Youth Chorus performed "Accidentally in Love" from "Shrek 2" and joined the Civic Chorus in the finale selection.
The Chorus was especially excited to be joined by many of the founders and past members of the Jackson Civic Chorus who shared their memories of their years with the chorus and joined in the finale.
