Prospective MembersNew Member Information:The Jackson Civic Chorus is a community chorus sponsored by the Jackson Council for the Arts. Artistic director and chorus conductor Jason M. Diaz encourages interested vocalists of all ability levels to become involved in the music group. The chorus welcomes diversity of ages and musical experience and hopes people will find rehearsals friendly, supportive and enriching. Director, Jason M. Diaz, is honored to be conducting the Jackson Civic Chorus for his second season. Before accepting this position, Mr. Diaz spent four and half years studying music education at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. During that time, he acquired knowledge in many subject areas with several noteworthy professors. Mr. Diaz studied tuba performance with Dr. Gary Bird; voice (tenor) with Dr. John Dietz; and wind band conducting with both Drs. Jack Stamp and Jason Worzbyt. He graduated from the university with High Honors in December of 2004. Currently, Mr. Diaz is proud to be an educator with the Jackson School District. During the school day, he teaches middle school vocal music at the Carl W. Goetz Middle School. He usually spends the remainder of his day attending to his responsibilities as the Music Staff Member of the Jackson Jaguar Marching Band and Pit Director for the Jackson Memorial Spring Musical. Accompanist Will Vanderburg, has been playing piano since age 5, and composing music since age 14. Will studied music at Catawba College in Salisburg, North Carolina. Will was the winner of the 1986 North Carolina Young Composer's Award. He has performed in a variety of settings, including musicals, orchestra, and Jazz ensemble.The Jackson Civic Chorus rehearses on Tuesday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Jackson United Methodist Church, 68 Bennett Mills Road, Jackson, New Jersey. The group sings primarily English language pieces. Foreign language pieces are sometimes added to enrich a performance and extend the artistic realm of the chorus. The Chorus presents annual spring performances for the public and performs at municipal and other civic functions throughout the year. No membership dues are associated with the chorus. People who decide to join are placed in a section (alto, soprano, tenor, bass) according to their vocal range. High school students (under age 18) interested in joining the chorus should phone ahead for additional information and requirements. The chorus welcomes anyone willing to donate time and talent to organizational needs.
