Welcome to the Jackson Counsel for the arts online Scholarship Program

Young Musician Scholarship Program

By Vicki Rickabaugh, Scholarship Committee Chairperson

Art for Community’s Sake is what the Jackson Council for the Arts is all about. We believe that one important way of nurturing the arts in Jackson is to nurture the talents of our young people. And so we designed the Young Musician Scholarship Program. Music truly is the universal language, and what better way to communicate with our young people than by encouraging their enjoyment of the arts.

I am proud to announce that since its inception in 2001, the Jackson Young Musician Scholarship program has awarded fifty scholarships to talented instrumental musicians who are residents of the Township from the middle and high school age groups. The scholarship awards have been used to offset the cost of music lessons, instrument purchases, music camps and related expenses. Scholarship awardees were selected by an enthusiastic panel of musicians and music educators from outside of Jackson.

In January, 2003, eight of the 2002 Scholarship winners performed at the Jackson Civic Chorus Winter Concert, showcasing what this Scholarship Program is all about.

It is our intent that the Scholarship program be entirely supported by donations from the community through fund raising efforts. Of course, the heart of our steady, ongoing support comes from our audiences. You are all greatly appreciated.

Our next scholarship auditions will be held in 2006. Application materials will be distributed to area schools and music teachers. If you would like more information about our next program, please feel free to call me at (732) 928-3498.
